ABSTRACT

Social Studies was introduced as a problem-solving subject in schools. From where it was originated (USA), it was believed that the subject would help to find solutions to many societal problem ravaging the whole world. There were series of crimes being committed and the outbreak of the two world wars was attributed to lack of thorough understanding among different people of the world. From USA, the teaching of Social Studies spread to Britain where it eventually spread to Africa and Nigeria in particular. However, owing to the social studies curriculum, many societal problems were being resolved, and there was a semblance of world peace. But, today, many of these societal problems begin to resurface. There is insecurity and lack of peace in the world. There is then the need to look into a way of evolving a new Social Studies contents to be able to provide solution to the ravaging social problems in the presume ‘new world’ we live in now. This paper therefore tried to focus on the ways of remolding and evolving a new Social Studies contents so as to proffer continuing solutions to the observed re-occuring social vices in our society.
